President Trump on Tuesday accused former President Barack Obama of declining to take action against Russian efforts to meddle in the 2016 election, because he wanted to preserve Hillary Clinton’s chances of winning the race.

“‘There is no serious person out there who would suggest somehow that you could even rig America’s elections, there’s no evidence that that has happened in the past or that it will happen this time, and so I’d invite Mr. Trump to stop whining and make his case to get votes,'” Trump tweeted, quoting Obama.

“The President Obama quote just before election. That’s because he thought Crooked Hillary was going to win and he didn’t want to ‘rock the boat,'” he added. “When I easily won the Electoral College, the whole game changed and the Russian excuse became the narrative of the Dems.”

Trump’s tweets came days after special counsel Robert Mueller, who’s investigating Russian meddling in the election, unsealed indictments against 13 Russian individuals and three Russian companies for their alleged roles in a plot to disrupt and influence the U.S. presidential race.

The indictments painted a detailed picture of the Russian effort to sew political divisions and discord in the U.S., and appeared to rebuff Trump’s claims that Mueller’s investigation is a “hoax” and a “witch hunt.”

Mueller is also investigating whether anyone on the Trump campaign conspired with Moscow to help sway the 2016 election – a notion that Trump has repeatedly denied.

Trump’s tweets were his latest attacking Obama for his alleged failure to adequately address concerns about Russian meddling, despite efforts by the U.S. intelligence community to investigate the plot in the months before the election.

Trump raised the point in a tweet a day earlier, questioning why Obama didn’t do more to address the Russian efforts.

“Obama was President up to, and beyond, the 2016 Election. So why didn’t he do something about Russian meddling?” Trump tweeted.
