June was a good month for those looking for a job.

Some 287,000 new jobs were added across a wide range of industries and sectors, according to theBureau of Labor Statistics.

So where were was all the hiring taking place?

–Hotels, restaurants, concerts and sporting events staffed up big time. The leisure and hospitality industry was the leader for the month, adding 59,000 jobs in June. Companies in performing arts and spectator sports saw growth of 14,000 jobs after a drop in May. Food services and drinking establishments hired even more workers, adding 22,000 jobs, which was about the same as the pace in May.

–Health care and social assistance services were a close second, as hospitals, nursing facilities, child day care and family services providers added 58,000 jobs during the month. Health care employment in particular increased by 39,000 over the month with ambulatory services seeing an increase of 19,000 jobs and hospitals seeing a jump of 15,000. Child day care also added 15,000 jobs.

–Finance, real estate and insurance increased 16,000 jobs in June bringing the sector’s total gains this year to 163,000.

–The information sector added 44,000 jobs. And by “information” the government means companies involved in film and recording, TV and radio broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, telecommunications and data hosting. The telecommunications section added 28,000 jobs, largely because of workers returning from the Verizon strike.

–Legal advice and animal care helped account for 38,000 new jobs. The professional and business services industry, which includes lawyers, accountants, engineers, photographers and veterinarians, has added an average of 30,000 jobs every month this year.

–Retailers saw an increase of 30,000 jobs for a total of 313,000 so far this year.

But June wasn’t a perfect month. The mining industry continued to struggle, losing another 6,000 jobs in June. There also was little or no change in construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, transportation and warehousing jobs.
