Last night President Obama addressed the nation in his “State of the Union Address,” and this could have given him ample opportunity to speak on the troubled Affordable Care Act or “ObamaCare.
Unfortunately the president barely mentioned it, except to say, “Because of this law, no American can ever again be dropped or denied coverage for a preexisting condition like asthma, back pain, or cancer. No woman can ever be charged more just because she’s a woman.”
The president scolded Republicans stating, “I know that the American people aren’t interested in refighting old battles. So again, if you have specific plans to cut costs, cover more people, and increase choice – tell America what you’d do differently. Let’s see if the numbers add up. But let’s not have another forty-something votes to repeal a law that’s already helping millions of Americans. The first forty were plenty. We got it. We all owe it to the American people to say what we’re for, not just what we’re against.
What was missing from the address and something that needs to be asked; what happens if not enough young people sign up for ObamaCare?
I know this has been written about in previous articles but it’s a question that needs to be asked, and no one but a few media outlets have covered or asked the question.
Currently the law is predicated on a core demographic of young and healthy individuals signing up to cover the costs for the elderly and the ill. Written into the health care law is a provision allowing for the bailout of the health insurance companies.
This is a huge question that should and needs to be asked! The administration routinely speaks how many have enrolled, but this false narrative does not convey the entire picture.
The argument is not how many have enrolled, but how many have actually completed the entire process to include paying their premiums.
We still do not know the complete breakdown in the demographics of who signed up for ObamaCare. We need to know this key component if we are better able to prepare for the eventuality that if enough young people do not sign up their at least should be a plan B.
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issues a press statement following the State of the Union Address, “At no point did the President explain why American taxpayers should have to fund a bailout of health insurance companies when ObamaCare fails to sign up enough young and healthy people. The President won’t be able to ignore this problem much longer as the realities of ObamaCare’s failures put taxpayers at greater risk of bailing out health insurers. We should take this possibility completely off the table by approving legislation I’ve introduced with Congressman Tim Griffin.”
The main stream media and political pundits need to ask this question, in the eventuality this happens; will the insurance companies receive a bailout?
