Vice President Kamala Harris is now the unofficial Democratic Party’s candidate for president, and one that will become official at the Democratic convention held in Chicago, the real question which needs to be asked is how will she govern if elected?
After the Democratic Party elites forced President Biden from seeking a second term, then anointed Harris has his replacement, the media has been unable to have sit down one-on-one interview with her. The real question is how will she govern, four years ago Harris campaigned for president by focusing on a very progressive agenda for the country.
Harris’ candidacy imploded from the very start and failed to reach the primaries before withdrawing, now that she is the Democratic Party’s candidate she has now begun to moderate her positions on various issues that she campaigned on four years ago.
Friday, Harris had for the first time gave the nation her economic philosophy in North Carolina where she articulated how she would reduce prices consumers pay for groceries.
Harris stated, “Costs are still too high. And on a deeper level, for too many people, no matter how much they work, it feels so hard to just be able to get ahead,” she told the crowd. “As president, I will take on the high costs that matter most to most Americans, like the cost of food. We all know that prices went up during the pandemic, when the supply chains shut down and failed, but our supply chains have now improved and prices are still too high.”
Her solution was to impose price controls by having the Federal Trade Commission determine what grocery companies can charge in their stores, despite the Federal Reserve Board of San Francisco issuing a report in may disputing this claim.
Price controls have never worked in the past, the last time price controls were enacted was in the 1970’s during the Nixon presidency and later revoked because they failed miserably, and only reduced the supply of basic commodities.
Another proposal Harris mentioned was to provide tax incentives for homebuilder to build starter homes for first-time homebuyers by giving them a $25,000 subsidy for first-time homeowners buying a house. A Harris presidency will cut “needless bureaucracy and unnecessary regulatory red tape” as part of that and said she’ll promote “innovative technologies while protecting consumers.” She vowed to set “a stable business environment with consistent and transparent rules of the road.”
Right now, there are a shortage of homes, and by giving additional subsidy you will only be increasing the cost of homes, with the demand for homes increase and limited supply you will only be increasing the cost of homes being sold.
The $25,000 subsidy given is meaningless when in California the median cost of a home is $904,000.
Additional economic issues need to be address, Harris hasn’t stated how she will tackle the massive U.S. national debt which just crossed over $35 trillion. Does she still support Medicare for all, and the Green New Deal which would add trillions to the debt?
Does Harris still support the progressive agenda of 2020?
How would she deal with trade issues, business regulations, and making sure Social Security and Medicare are solvent with all the experts including the Congressional Budget Office stating these programs will be insolvent by 2033?
Other issues Harris has to address and one that has dogged the Biden-Harris administration and that is immigration that has exploded under their watch with over 8 million illegals entering the U.S. southern border.
Does she still believe in open border and that all illegals should have healthcare provided by the federal and state governments?
Harris early in the Biden administration was placed in charge of dealing with the problem at its source, but Harris only visited Central America, and the U.S. Southern border once.
Since 2021 she has never mentioned nor discussed any issue relating to the border crisis except blaming the previous administration for the crisis, especially blaming former President Trump for blowing up the bipartisan immigration deal in February of this year.
If anyone would have read the bill it did nothing to stop the flow of illegal immigration into the country. The bill would have allowed up to 5,000 a day to cross into the U.S. which equates to almost 2 million a year.
Even former Secretary of Homeland Security in the Obama administration Jeh Johnson stated, “1,000 illegals entering every day will overwhelm the system,” what will 5,000 a day cause?
There was no mention of HR-2 which passed in the House but has languished in the Senate, this would have tightened up the asylum laws and punished states and municipalities from working with ICE.
Finally, other issues to include foreign policy need to be asked of Harris, how does she plan on dealing with the Ukraine-Russia conflict which is now close to entering its third year.
What about the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict and its potential to morph into a regional conflict? How would she handle her own party who want to stop sending war materials to Israel and want an immediate ceasefire?
What’s her policy toward Iran? How would she deal with China?
So many questions, but still she has not sat down for a hard edge media interview since becoming the nominee. We can’t wait until after the November election to find out what her policies will be then it will be to late!
